To give you some idea of our deli range, we sell a good deal of local smoked produce such as roasted sliced wild venison, sliced hot smoked duck, smoked chicken and smoked carpaccio.

Sweet-cured and whisky-cured smoked salmon are both very popular, as is chorizo, pickled herring, crayfish and various exotic pâtés such as pheasant liver with calvados and apple.

We always stock a good variety of cheeses, ranging from Ticklemore goats’ cheese (Devon) to local favourites such as Gruth Dhu, Crowdie and the extensive ‘Taste of Gigha’ range. In April 2006 we launched our own ‘Drumbeg Stores’ blocks of delicious smoked Lockerbie cheddar and throughout the holiday season sold several dozen of these every week.   Our organic cheeses come from Connage Highland Dairy and include Crowdie, Clava, Dunlop and Cromal.

In addition to these chilled deli treats we also have  several shelves brimming with intriguing bottles and jars containing everything from gherkins, oils, olives and exotic curry pastes to pickled walnuts, artichoke antipasto, quails with truffles and  the full Moniack Castle range of sauces, jellies, jams and chutneys. Sun-dried tomato rolls, 16” baguettes and mouth-watering croissants are baked on the premises before we open.

Meat comes to us deep-frozen every fortnight from the ‘Food for Thought’ butchery in Ullapool whose reputation for quality produce is well deserved. Typically, our meat freezer will contain their sirloin steaks, pork chops, chicken fillets, venison burgers, beef sausages, diced lamb, meal olives, black pudding and steak mince. This same outlet also supplies us with ‘Dave’s Own Homemade Dry Cure Bacon’ as well as freshly made steak pies and both smoked and peppered mackerel.

Also from Ullapool come our wildly popular oatcakes and shortbread: the former includes flavours such as Stilton & Walnut, Coriander & Cumin, Caraway, Garlic, Chilli Cheese and Onion, while the deluxe shortbread comes in flavours as diverse as Cherry, Caramel, Peanut Butter, Lemon and Stem Ginger.

Our wines are delivered to us every Wednesday from Oddbins in Inverness, ranging in price from £3.99 to £16.95.  Chablis, Sancerre, Champagne and various other French classics are perennial favourites but we also stock some really exciting wines from Australia, South Africa, Chile, Argentina, Spain and Italy.  We are also the sole retail outlet for the Auld Alliance Biodynamic Wine Company (based 5 miles down the road) which imports biodynamic fine wines directly from France to Scotland.  In addition to the usual range of spirits you would expect to find in a licensed grocer, we stock a number of malts including 10-year-old ‘Clashnessie Bay’ at £19.95.
